Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday said that there is no information available about whether any houseboats were damaged or destroyed during the 2014 floods.
In a reply to a question about house boats tabled by MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmad, the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR), according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) replied: “No specific information is available regarding any houseboats in Srinagar’s Chinar Bagh area being damaged or destroyed during the 2014 floods, nor is there any proposal for the rehabilitation of houseboat owners.”
The reply stated that no confirmation was available regarding whether the houseboat owners were living in miserable conditions or are deprived of basic amenities.
In its supplementary information, the DMRRR said, “As per the report received from the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, no specific information is available regarding the queries raised... consequently, the matter may be treated as Nil.”
The government also shared there is no plan under consideration to provide land or other forms of rehabilitation for the said houseboat owners—(KNO)
